The heat has lasted than a lot longer than expected in England, it’s been like this for what, over a month and a bit now?
In my whole life, I have never experienced weather like this here. I feel like I ’m on holiday but the reality sinks in when I realise I have to wake up every day and still go to work. Meh! Whatever, life goes on. (FYI – I hate the central line! WHY DOESN’T IT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING?!)
It’s made me start thinking about skincare. There are many articles in the media about how to protect ourselves in this extreme weather, but I’ve basically created a little blog post that includes the most important bits, so you have it here in one place and it’s easy to share. I’m also including cruelty-free and vegan sun creams below.
So here goes….
You what mate? In England? PLEASE!
I don’t take skin protection seriously while in London and if you’re anything like me, it’s so so bad! The sun is stronger than ever and everyone knows what happens when we don’t use sun cream. Skin damage, burning, cancer… the list can go on.
HOW ARE WE APPLYING IT
So a recent article in the BBC said we are all actually applying sun lotion incorrectly! Wait, what? There’s a way to apply it incorrectly? Are you for real?
According to the article – SPF ratings are based on the assumption that a 2mg blob will cover 1 sq cm of skin”.
“Areas such as the sides of the neck, temples and ears are commonly missed, so take extra care and apply liberally”.
Okay… so another thing we have to remember!
SUNCREAM RULES (taken from the article)
- Ideally, it’s put on about 15 to 30 minutes before going out in the sun – allowing it to dry is key
- Keep applying every two hours
The best products
Obviously, you know I am all about a good deal! Sun cream is expensive, something we all just need to get over. I do anyway!
The key is to have an SPF moisturiser, so it’s really not changing your routine very much and you aren’t rubbing huge amount of oily product on yourself every day before getting onto the sticky tube!
Ideally, we should have SPF 30 or above on in order to protect ourselves properly. Because I tan really quickly, I’m happy with that!
How do you sort that out? For me, there’s only one solution.
ALOE VERA GEL, Banana Boat (deal on Amazon at the moment)
Finally – STAY HYDRATED
Water all the way ladies and gentlemen.
